Our stunning mountain town has been in the news a lot this summer. We are back at it with Glenwood’s Fairy Caves topping CNN’s list of amazing caves in the US. According to CNN, “In the 1890s, the Fairy Caves in Glenwood Springs became some of the first caves in the world lit with electric lights.” After an 82 year closure, locals and tourists were introduced to the caves again in 1999 at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. If you’ve never treated yourself to a view of Mother Nature’s natural underground wonders, plan a visit to Glenwood Springs. The Fairy Caves offer a stunning introduction to some truly amazing geology. Whether or not you make it down to the bottom of the tour, getting to the relatively flat half-way point is enough to enjoy the trip.
For those more adventurous types, there is a Wild Cave Tour that takes visitor through rarely seen areas of the historic Fairy Caves. You’d better come prepared to get down and dirty as you’ll be crawling on your hands, elbows stomach and knees for extended periods.
Take a peek for yourself!
